Heritage character, with a contemporary next chapter.
Heritage renovation + additional unit

Concept to handover
The brief
This North Melbourne project brought a fresh approach to a heritage home, combining the restoration of its original façade with contemporary living spaces and an additional unit. The aim was to retain its character while introducing a modern layer.
From concept to handover
Elk Build was engaged from concept through to handover, with architectural design by Urban Creative. Delivered over twelve months, the scope combined the heritage renovation with the construction of an additional unit.
Heritage with a modern twist
The restored façade preserves the home’s presence on the street. Behind it, contemporary finishes and a rooftop terrace introduce a new way to enjoy the property, balancing heritage character with modern design.
Bringing old and new together
Maintaining the existing façade structure while integrating the new work was a key challenge. Tight access on a main road added another layer of coordination. Careful sequencing and attention to the transitions between old and new were central to delivering a cohesive result.
